HJE Wenckebachweg 53J Amsterdam
Friday the 13th marked the first time we opened the doors of STUDIO MAX & ELLE. What started as an open studio quickly spread through the building: works in progress from our studios, an art fair, clothing, ceramics, pizza, drinks, performance and live music.
For the art fair, Thomas van der Putten, Mitta, Aske Hvitved, Adam Etmanski, Candice Binjacar, Ethan LK and Finn Overdevest brought work into the space. Their contributions ranged from ceramics and sculpture to drawing and other objects, temporarily turning part of the studio into a place where work could be shown, encountered and bought directly from the artists.
1234kleding.nl joined with their refurbished pre-owned clothing, while The Pied brought knitted clothing made with recycled materials. Matto Pizza provided free pizza throughout the event.
During the event, Ethan LK performed a work around the topic of sunning your anus. The day ended with live music by By Figure of Speech, a trio moving between alternative indie, ambient and other contemporary sounds.
It was our first event at H.J.E. Wenckebachweg and the first time we tested what could happen when we opened up the space beyond our own studios. Artists brought their work, people stayed, artworks were sold, free pizza was eaten, music was played and the building was used for something it had not been given to us for. It became the starting point for many of the exhibitions, workshops, performances and collaborations that followed at STUDIO MAX & ELLE.
